Making the most of your Open Day
Thinking about whether the ¹ú²úÊÓƵ is right for you? An Open Day is the perfect opportunity to explore our campuses and find out more about your course and student life. In this blog post, we’ll be sharing our top tips on how to make the most of your visit.
Tip #1: Plan your day
Before you arrive, we will send you an Open Day programme which covers directions on how to find us, which campus to arrive at and where to park. This programme is also filled with information about the timings and locations of everything on offer throughout the day.
Be sure to make a note of where your course will be based, as well as which talks you’d like to attend and where they’ll be taking place. This will help you work out where to fit in other activities, such as viewing our accommodation or paying a visit to our world-class facilities!
Tip #2: Do what interests you
Our Open Days are packed with activities, talks, and tours, but it's important to prioritise what genuinely excites you. Whether you're passionate about a particular subject, curious about student societies, or keen to explore study abroad opportunities, there's likely a session tailored to your interests.
Thinking about studying abroad? Wondering how student finance works or what support is available for international students? There’s probably a talk for that and it could answer questions you didn’t even know you had. These sessions are often led by experienced staff or current students who can offer real insight and practical advice.
Don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone either, sometimes the most unexpected sessions can spark new interests or help you see your future in a different light.
Tip #3: Take your time
Why not grab a free tea or coffee and listen to some live music? Or take a moment to chat with our friendly student ambassadors about their experiences at the ¹ú²úÊÓƵ? For those who enjoy the outdoors, our top recommendations are a stroll along the University Mile or a visit to our stunning ‘secret garden’! There is so much to do and see across our stunning campuses.
Tip #4: Check out our Personal Statement Workshops
Your personal statement is an important part of the university application process. It’s your opportunity to express your enthusiasm for your course and showcase your strengths. So…no pressure?
We understand that writing about yourself can feel daunting, so our university advisors will be on hand to offer one-to-one feedback and provide guidance on how to improve your personal statement. Bring along a copy of your first draft and pay us a visit! Timings can be found in your programme.
Even if you haven’t started writing yet, don’t worry! These workshops are a great place to get inspired and learn what admissions tutors are really looking for. You’ll pick up practical tips on structure, tone, and how to make your statement stand out for all the right reasons. It’s a small investment of time that could make a big difference to your application.
Tip #5: Spend time in the city
When choosing a university, it’s also vital that you check out the surrounding areas. After all, you’re signing up to live there for the next three years! At Worcester, we are very lucky to be situated in a vibrant city with the community spirit of a small town.
Think about all the things you enjoy doing at home and explore what Worcester has to offer you. Big on shopping? Take a walk through our bustling high street. Consider yourself a foodie? Pop into one of our many independent cafes or restaurants! All our campuses are in good proximity of the city centre.
We hope this guide helps you prepare for your upcoming visit to the ¹ú²úÊÓƵ. We look forward to seeing you soon!
