The University’s Constitutions, Rights and Justice Research Group is holding a free Rights and Justice Festival at The Hive, in Worcester, on July 8, designed to address legal issues relevant to today in an accessible way.
Dr Chris Monaghan, Principal Lecturer in Law at the ¹ú²úÊÓƵ and director of the Research Group, said: “At the ¹ú²úÊÓƵ our approach is inclusive, and we are keen to share the exciting work being undertaken by our colleagues with the local community.”
Since the creation of the Constitutions, Rights and Justice Research Group in 2021, it has held a number of events such as conferences, workshops and lectures that are open to the public. However, the Rights and Justice Festival is more extensive with a one-day programme of interactive and engaging presentations on a wide range of issues.
These include colonialism, the death penalty, the jury system, human rights, children’s rights, family law, social rights in the criminal justice system, judges, last year's summer riots and the US constitution.
Talks will be given by Law and Criminology academics within the University’s School of Law, but also by colleagues from across the University including history and psychology and external academics and a retired judge.
This inaugural festival will be taking place in collaboration with the Hive. It is designed to engage the general public and organisers are particularly keen to welcome local school and college students.
Dr Monaghan added: “If you enjoy learning about something new and exciting, then the Rights and Justice Festival is for you. This is a great way to learn more about the research which takes place at the University and to listen to talks on topics as varied as jury misconduct and the US constitution.”
Attendance is free, but people will need to register for each talk. Visit .
