Before coming to academia, Julie gained many valuable years' experience in both acute and community clinical practice settings. With the majority of her experience being in clinical cardiology, Julie also worked in gastro nursing and in palliative care for many years before joining Oxford Brookes University as a lecturer in 2012. Julie relocated her home and is very pleased to have joined the ¹ú²úÊÓƵ in July 2025.

Julie is a dedicated nurse teacher with a strong passion for education and knowledge exchange. With experience of both theory and practice modules across sites and fields of nursing, she leads compassionately and nurtures teams to be the best they can be. Her latter experience includes the leadership role of placement lead between 2021 and 2025. Julie was awarded Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy in December 2024 in recognition of an excellent contribution to teaching.

Additionally, Julie is a dedicated researcher. Her PhD used phenomenology to focus on nurse educators' experiences of preparing and supporting nursing students for clinical placements in nursing homes. Julie's recent publications include work with student nurses, primary research studies, commentaries and opinion papers. Ongoing research collaborations include an international project focused on the impact of COVID-19 on older people's vulnerability and access to healthcare systems, qualitative work evaluating community placement experiences and international systematic review writing. Julie is an external examiner and a peer reviewer for Nurse Education in Practice.
