Jamie is a Senior Lecturer on the PGCE Secondary and Post compulsory Education programme in Physical Education. Across his role, Jamie delivers across the full PGCE Secondary PE programme, as well being a professional academic tutor. He has worked in education as a secondary school teacher across the West Midlands and Southwest regions for the past 10 years. More recently, Jamie has made the transition from being head of department in PE to his current role in teacher education at the university since January 2026.

During his time in secondary education, Jamie was lead practitioner on a wide range of qualifications across both academic and vocational aspects of examination PE, including A-Level PE, GCSE PE and BTEC Sport at both Level 2 and 3. Jamie has been the lead internal verifier across multiple academic qualifications. This specialism provides him with a current, up-to-date knowledge base to support trainees on the PGCE qualification.

Alongside extensive experience leading qualifications and departments, Jamie has also been an ITT and ECT mentor, as well as delivering staff CPD sessions that target raising awareness in how trainees can support students from diverse backgrounds. Jamie’s passion for social justice marries with the Universities values, and he enjoys research focuses on this, specifically how social class and socio-economic status can impact the opportunities and exposure to different sports we all have.

Alongside teaching, Jamie holds extensive coaching qualifications that allow the effective support of trainees across a wide range of sports delivered throughout the programme. Jamie’s main sports are football and Muay Thai which he regularly continues to take part in as part in. Teaching has been everything to Jamie over the past decade, and he is as motivated as ever to support our trainee’s to be successful in the world of secondary and further education!
